My second year shooting with the monochrome only Leica camera has me back in New York seeing old haunts, family and friends during the annual sabbatical. Being in the city named after the famous movie - The Naked City; it’s life with a pulse that never wants to stop beating.

Spending the last several years wandering among the population, here are the obvious differences witnessed in lifestyles between those in the wide open spaces of the rural countryside and those cramped within the confines of steel and concrete.

Province life is a simple life lived outside the hustle and bustle of big cities and suburban sprawl. Sometimes rural, sometimes lacking in sophistication, it has it's own distinct flavor and culture sometimes comparable to a Western view of "country" (vs. city).

The COVID-19 pandemic is among the deadliest infectious diseases to have emerged in recent history, covering all parts of the globe. First identified as a new disease in China in December 2019, The World Health Organization declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic on 11 March, 2020.On 16 March, 2020, the government of the Philippines imposed an enhanced community quarantine in all of Luzon and the surrounding islands, which was effectively a total lockdown, restricting the movement of the population except for necessity, work and health circumstances, which came two days after the implementation of community quarantine in Metro Manila. Additional restrictions mandated temporary closure of non-essential shops, commercial and retail businesses, schools and universities, banning of public events and travel, and social distancing and wearing of masks (later face shields) was mandated used whenever outdoors.

Whether it be work or play, capturing every day Filipino life outside the crowded confines of the metropolis of Manila. In the countryside of the provinces, the mountains, the sea and beaches; the beauty of my adopted home on display.

Man, muscle and endurance; versus man, versus beauty, and versus oneself... Showing the strain and results of giving one's all in the spirit of competition.
